During moderate to heavy rainfall events it has become evident that the athletic fields located on the TCNJ campus adjacent to Green Lane become inundated with flooding. Flooding occurs from a combination of runoff from the surrounding watershed during rain events as well as flooding from the stream located next to the fields. The inundation results in limited use of the fields for the TCNJ community. The intention of this study is to determine the extents of the flooding and design a solution to remediate the problem. Through the use of accepted ASTM standards and industry standard methodology such as: soil analysis, watershed analysis from topographic maps, hydrologic analysis using Synder’s Method, SCS Regression, and SCS Segmental, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS), and the use of StreamStats, data was collected which allowed for proper analysis of the problem and subsequent design solutions to be considered. The following pertinent results were found for flows due to stromwater runoff within watershed of 7.2 cfs, 11.5 cfs, 15.1 cfs, 20.3 cfs, 24.6 cfs, and 29 cfs for a 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 year rain events respectively using Snyder’s method. Analysis of the adjacent stream showed flooding outside the channel from a 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and a 100-year rain event, which leads to additional flooding in the fields. From this data and through the use of the HEC-RAS program, the design of a levee wall that runs the length of the stream and redesign of the culvert that Green Lane runs over were developed to eliminate flooding from the stream. In order to alleviate the flooding due to stormwater runoff from the surrounding watershed area, a wet pond and underground storage basin were designed. All of these design solutions were developed in order to account of a 100-year rain event. All designs were developed in accordance with the NJ Stormwater Best Practice Management Practices Manual.
